Persian Lime has culinary, medicinal and industrial applications. Where does Persian Lime 

come from?

Lime is a citrus fruit belonging to the Rutaceae Family, its origin as most modern citrus cultivars is Southeast Asia but limes were introduced to the Mediterranean from Persia.

 

Citrus x latifolia, Persian lime, also known as Tahiti lime was spread during the middle Ages and was traded into North Africa from Persia and later to the Mediterranean. From there the Spaniards introduced in the Americas

 

This fruit is larger compared to key lime · has about six centimeters in diameter · has no seeds, is usually green, generally not consumed fresh (its juice is used for flavor), has no thorns on trees, lasts longer once collected and has greater resistance to disease.

Colombian Persian Lime production and exports have increased significantly in recent years. Antioquia, Santander, Cundinamarca and Valle del Cauca are the main growing regions. Located in the tropics we do not have seasons which allow us to grow fruit all year round.
